For senior Ashley Tousana, learning languages is the first step to building foreign relations. She has spent enough time studying Mandarin and living abroad in China that she considers it a second home. It has also reinforced her interest in possibly pursuing a career in China-Africa development affairs, specifically in their trade policy and economic relations.

The Awards are presented annually to the authors and illustrators of the best children’s and young adult books on Africa published or republished in the U.S. The Center is building a complete in-house collection of CABA Books, which will be available to educators, as part of the Outreach Library.

I am a former refugee from Somaliland. My educational journey started in the late 90s in the US and I completed my Bachelor in Computer Information Systems in Minnesota and moved to the Washington Metropolitan area at the end of 2006, where I taught, developed, and tested the Somali language for the last ten years. I have completed my Masters of Career Technical Education online at Concordia University.
