The Center for African Studies Outreach conducts staff development workshops and institutes open to educators, librarians, parents and community members in Washington, DC and the mid-Atlantic states of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Center for African Studies Summer Institute 2017:

In August, the Center for African Studies Outreach Program at Howard University hosted a three-day summer institute for highly motivated educators interested in reading, learning, and teaching about Africa. African Studies scholars introduced educators to history, culture and contemporary issues in three African countries: Ethiopia, Mali and Angola. Educators who completed the 3 day course and designed a related lesson received a stipend of $300.00.
