The Center for African Studies Outreach conducts staff development workshops and institutes open to educators, librarians, parents and community members in Washington, DC and the mid-Atlantic states of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania. 

Center for African Studies Summer Institute 2018 - Africa in the Classroom & Community: Mali at the Center: 

  • August 1-3, 2018
  • Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library, Howard University

The Center for African Studies Outreach Program at Howard University hosted a three-day summer institute for highly motivated educators interested in reading, learning, and teaching about Africa. This year, African Studies scholars introduced educators to history, culture and contemporary issues in Mali. Educators who completed the course and designed a related lesson received a stipend of $300.00.

A special session of Primary Source's online course for teachers in grades 6-12, Modern African History, was offered this winter through the Howard University Center for African Studies.
