The distinguished Professor Mbye Cham is our Interim Director for the Spring 2025 semester while Professor Krista Johnson is on leave. Dr. Cham is the founder of our Center and has graciously agreed to return for this time period. We are grateful to be under his guidance again!

What panels are Howard faculty and students presenting on at the 67th African Studies Association (ASA) Annual Meeting? Here is the list!

The ASA Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of Africanist scholars in the world and is the flagship event of the association. This year it will be held in Chicago, IL from December 12 – 14, with the theme "Global Africa".

Reflection on the African Studies Summer Leadership Institute 2024

The African Studies Summer Leadership Institute launched in the summer of 2024 as an initiative to bring African history, culture, and contemporary affairs to high school youth in the Washington, DC area. It aims to create an ever-evolving bond between Howard University and local communities that will promote pathways to global leadership, foster strong relationships amongst Africans in the diaspora, and bring visibility to our prestigious Department of African Studies.

Newzroom Afrika, a South African news channel, features Howard University's Zulu lecturer, Dr. Sipho Sithole, and two of his students, Tatiana Allen (Howard University) and Anastasia Taylor (Jackson State University), while they study abroad in South Africa, as part of the HUZISA Program at Howard.
