My name is Eboni Brown, and I am a senior International Affairs major, TV/Film and Geography double minor from Goldsboro, NC. I was a finalist for the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship program for Swahili and I traveled to Arusha, Tanzania for 8 weeks to improve my Swahili skills and learn more about East African culture.

Howard provides social media security training to Daystar University students in Kenya
This year, Dr. Kehbuma Langmia received the Academic Faculty Enhancement and Enrichment (AFEE) grant from the Center for African Studies to conduct social media security training for undergraduate students in the School of Communications at the Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya. While at Daystar, Dr. Langmia's group, which included Howard students, held two sessions that were conducted with different Daystar students attending each event.

South African news channel, Newzroom Afrika, features Howard University students during the HU Zulu in South Africa (HUZISA) Study Abroad Program. The students, led by their Umlazi-born Zulu professor, Dr. Phiwokuhle Mnyandu, deepened their cultural competence and explored Zulu history, culture and language.

Last week marked the beginning of the first ever Howard University Zulu in South Africa Study Abroad Program, led by Dr. Phiwokuhle Mnyandu! Nine students, eight of whom are of the Foreign Language and Areas Studies Fellowship (FLAS) recipients, will undergo a 6-week experiential study of the Zulu language and culture. Many thanks to CfAS Director, Professor Krista Johnson. Howard’s Center for African Studies remains at the forefront of cultural competency training to make our students competitive in the global economy.
