Hyundai sponsors the HBCU-Africa Correspondents Corps program
We would like to give our gratitude to Hyundai for their generous donation to the HBCU-Africa Correspondents Corps program, an initiative of the Center for African Studies at Howard University. Hyundai came to meet with the team at the Center for African Studies on Tuesday and Howard students, Brianna Artis, Jacob Hanesworth, and Jayna Renna led a tour of the campus.
The Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)-Africa Correspondents Corps aims to provide student journalists and political scientists attending HBCUs with professional development exposure and experience beneficial to pursue a career as an international correspondent or political commentator. The HBCU-ACC will also work to broaden and deepen networks between HBCU students and their counterparts in Africa and the global African Diaspora.
The program is delivered through a monthly module where students engage with guest speakers and participate in journalism skills-building exercises. Each participant commits to publishing two articles a semester under the program. These can be in English or a foreign language. Every participant will be provided one-on-one mentoring sessions to ensure that they can succeed in the program. They also will be provided with professional networking opportunities so that they can use the program as a mechanism for landing internships.
