During the transformative summer of 2024, I embarked on an unforgettable study abroad experience in Kenya, with rich culture and breathtaking landscapes. Six weeks were dedicated to immersing myself in the language of Kiswahili and the culture, interacting with its warm and welcoming people, and delving into its fascinating history. This journey not only broadened my academic horizons but also left an enduring impact on my personal growth and perspective.

The program was meticulously designed to showcase Kenya's diverse ecosystems, from being in the city of Nairobi for three weeks and the coast of Kilifi for another three weeks. I explored Maasai Mara National Reserve, went on a safari, visited a primary school teaching young children in Kiswahili and visited a radio station. Beyond the natural wonders, I delved into Kenya's cultural heritage. Visiting Bomas of Kenya, a cultural center, and the National Museum of Kenya which gave me a glimpse into the traditions and culture of Kenya. These experiences provided invaluable insights into the challenges and hopes of the Kenyan people.

The immersive experience facilitated by the program fostered an enduring connection between me and the country. I developed meaningful relationships with local students at Daystar University, Pwani University, my host family, and community members. These connections provided a deeper understanding of Kenyan society and culture, giving me a perspective that mere tourism would never have offered.

Returning home, I carry with me the memories, experiences, and lessons that have shaped me in profound ways. The study abroad experience in Kenya ignited a passion within me for cultural understanding, environmental conservation, and global citizenship. It taught me the importance of embracing diversity, stepping outside of my comfort zone, and making a positive impact in the world. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to have studied abroad in this captivating and inspiring country.
